The 2025 Trend Report: Current Trends, Summer Must-Haves, and a Sneak Peek at Fall Styles

As a student studying Consumer Behavior and Marketplace Studies, I spend a lot of time analyzing trends and predicting how they are likely to develop over time. This year so far has offered a great amount of insight into how fashion will evolve in the coming months. As we look toward the upcoming months, it is key to acknowledge the trends and movements that will follow us into upcoming seasons.
Winter Season ‘24 - ‘25
As we wrap up Winter 2024-2025, it is safe to say that faux fur has dominated the fashion scene, making its mark on everything from shoes and handbags to vests and, most notably, coats. Despite the amount of attention it received this season, fur has always possessed an element of chic that has always been in style, making it surpass the title of “trendy.” However, the implementation of faux fur has completely revolutionized the way companies approach sustainable and cruelty-free fashion. That being said, faux fur is here to stay. Another winter trend that took the season by storm was knitwear. The implementation of chunky knit accessories, from hats to gloves, was a staple this winter season.
Spring and Summer Trends
As we transition into spring, sequins seem to be in every corner. This is nothing new, as sequin clothing has cycled in and out of fashion for decades, with a major moment in the 2000s. The Y2K era saw the biggest boom of this trend, especially with sequined mini dresses and tops, influenced by pop culture icons like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. Now, sequins are making a comeback.
People tend to be styling sequin pieces with plain and simple counterparts. Whether it is a sparkly skirt with a plain white tank, or vice versa, people are not shying away from combining casual styles with glitz and glam.
As summer sneaks up on us, one can assume that sequins will stick around. Summer 2025 fashion is set to embrace some bold statement pieces with sustainable choices. Collared tops seem to be making a comeback, as classy and chic styles are serving as a fun and different alternative for some. Additionally, we can predict that bold colors, the continuation of kitten heels, and maximalist accessories will take this season by storm.
Autumn ‘25 Sneak Peek
Fall is set to bring a bold fusion of edge and elegance, with fringe and studs capturing everyone's attention. We got a taste of this in Fall 2024, as studs and “rockstar chic” style trends began evolving, and I believe that next fall will allow these trends to develop even more. Expect to see a Western-meets-rockstar influence, with chunky leather jackets embellished with metal accentsand studded boots adding an effortless cool-girl effect. This season will be all about movement and statement-making details.
As fashion continues to evolve, each season brings fresh styles while reinventing past trends. While trends come and go, the most fashionable thing you can do is embrace your own personal style. Whether you’re drawn to sequins, bold colors, or edgy details, confidence is what truly makes an outfit stand out.
