If you’re anything like me, simply the thought of warmer weather is enough to boost your mood; as the seasons change and the winter cold slowly fades away, Madison welcomes new opportunities and a fresh start. While you pack up your snow boots and jackets for the next few months, get ready to ring in spring with these mood-boosting outdoor activities.

The beauty of Lake Mendota is undeniable, and nothing says “Madison spring” like sitting in a colorful chair at the Memorial Union Terrace. This beautiful lakeside spot is perfect for a study session, a tanning break, a chance to connect with the outdoors, and so much more. To me, the best part of the lake melting is the return of the sailboats that glide across the water. And while the Memorial Union Terrace view is hard to top, the amazing restaurants and cafes inside add a great touch. This spot on campus is sure to make you feel as far away from winter as possible!

If you’re looking to venture away from indoor gyms or heated workout classes and instead enjoy some outdoor exercise, there are plenty of great options. The Lakeshore Path, as most know it, offers a scenic stroll along Lake Mendota, perfect for a casual walk. My tip: grab a coffee from your favorite local cafe before heading out! For those who love cycling, hopping on a bike for a ride along campus, up to the Capitol, or the Lake Monona Loop provides both exercise and amazing views. Getting your heart pumping while enjoying fresh air and sunshine is an easy way to boost both your mood and energy levels.

One of my personal favorite spots to visit once the weather gets warmer is the Dane County Farmers’ Market! After a long winter, the market returns to Capitol Square on April 12th, bringing fresh produce and a lively atmosphere. Whether you're looking to sample fresh fruits and vegetables, pick up a beautiful bouquet of flowers, or grab the famous Stella’s cheese bread, you’re guaranteed an uplifting day. While doing this, you can also support the local farmers and small businesses working hard to bring these amazing products to Madison.

As the weather continues to warm up, there are countless ways to take advantage of all that Madison has to offer. Whether it’s a long nature walk, a day spent at the market, or a relaxing afternoon by the lake, the best part of this time of year is right around the corner. So get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and make the most of spring in Madison.
